PVT Adrian Garcia
I was serving in Ramadi, Iraq during the month of March in 2007 when I lost my legs. I had arrived in country on the 1st of March and arrived with the men of the 1st Battalion 9th Infantry Regiment, Baker Company, 3rd Platoon. My main job was manning the 50 caliber machine gun on most Humvees. I was injured on the 21st of March by a RPG attack. The Rocket was a dud, but still penetrated the vehicle and cut my legs off. I was flown to Germany for 3 days then to Washington, D.C. After three weeks of care in Walter Reed Medical Center, I was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where I have been since. I am receiving Physical Therapy at the newly opened Center for the Intrepid, dedicated to helping wounded warriors as myself to getting back to where we were in lives. I am going to receive prosthetic legs and I will walk again.
